Trans International

I'm flying a Seven Seas Cargo flight (Miami to Lisbon) with my Trans International Airlines DC8-63F.
Trans International was founded when multi-millionaire Kerkor Kerkorian bought a small charter outfit in Los Angeles. He began his flying career just before WW2 and ferried DeHavilland Mosquito's from Canada to England. After the war he borrowed money and bought some old bombers from the USAAF. He sold the gas that was still in them and with that was able to pay off the loan. He then sold the bombers and bought a small charter company in Los Angeles. He began flying charters to Las Vegas using a DC3. They quickly expanded to DC-6's and Constellations. In 1960 he named the charter business Trans International and bought their first jet, a DC8. Two years later he bought 80 acres of desert in Vegas and leased the land to developers who built Caesar's Palace. Six years later he sold the property to Caesar's and made a $9 million profit. He was later involved in developing other casino hotels like the MGM Grand.
In 1962 Studebaker (the car company!) bought TIA but sold it back to Kerkorian two years later. TIA was responsible for bringing cheap fares to international travel, primarily between Europe and the USA. Universal Airlines and Saturn Airways were bought, bringing cargo operations to TIA. TIA's biggest customer however was the US military, for whom they flew troops all over the world. In 1976 TransAmerica Corporation, a large insurance conglomerate, bought a controlling interest in TIA and renamed it TransAmerica Airlines. However, in 1986 the airline was closed as TransAmerica refocused on the insurance business. In it's history, TIA only had one fatal accident, a DC8 on a ferry flight out of New York.
At HAG, we are open to you substituting TIA or other freight companies to fly cargo routes. This practice was common in the air freight business.
